Deficiency of Vitamins in Dog Foods

Just as humans, dogs need certain vitamins to survive. Most dog foods contain enough of these for a dog to survive. What they do not contain is enough of these vitamins for a dog to thrive. You want you dog to do more that survive, you want them to thrive. Even the best dog food does not have enough for a dog to thrive. You need to add a nutritional supplement to their diet. This supplement should be a natural dog vitamin like Nuvet Plus. For more information read this full Nuvet Plus review

The effects of the lack of vitamins in dog food are far ranging. They are evidenced by problems with eye site, skin lesions, illness, and allergies. Their coat may not be as shiny as it could be as well. Taking a natural dog vitamin like Nuvet Plus can help to alleviate all of these. Vitamins in dog foods are also not going to fight against free radicals. Free radicals are known to cause cancer in animals and humans. Nuvet Plus fights against these free radicals and for the health of your pet.

This is not to say that dog foods do not contain some of the needed vitamins for a dog. Most all good dog foods will contain Vitamins A, D, E, K, B, and C just see the nuvet plus ingredients for a full list of all the natural ingredients. There are a range of B vitamins. Vitamins will do everything from help with blood clotting, bone growth, help build muscles, and convert food into energy. These vitamins are either fat soluble or water soluble. Fat soluble are stored in the liver and deplete slowly. Water soluble cannot be stored so must be absorbed in the small intestine daily,

A dog has to consume all of the food to get the vitamins in it. This assumes that they are getting the proper amount in a meal and are eating it all. Taking natural vitamins insures enough of the nutrition is getting to the systems.

Honest Kitchen Dog Food Review

Honest Kitchen dog food is essentially high quality organic dog food which is made from human grade ingredients. Honest Kitchen includes a good range of essential protein sources, as well as a non-protein formula which you may use with your own natural proteins. Honest Kitchen produces a variety of dog food products for dogs of different ages and activity levels.

I have been feeding my dog on Honest Kitchen dog food products for sometime now and he really loves it. I trust Honest Kitchen dog food because they are made from organic ingredients in a manufacturing plant which manufactures human food - which therefore make them healthy for my pet. When I mix this dog food with some meat, my dog always licks it clean off his bowl. This is a welcome relief from before when he used to be a really picky eater, who would leave the food to go cold in his bowl and only eat it when he was really hungry.

My dog particularly enjoys Honest Kitchen's Embark, Preference mixed with canned fish, and Force. Moreover, their Dehydrated raw is very convenient to carry along on road trips, which we have done a couple of times in the past for our dog. A short while after starting our dog on Honest Kitchen Embark, we were pleased to notice that she experienced less bowel movements and she also scratches less than before. I decided to switch to Honest Kitchen after my dog had some problems with other high end commercial dog food products. Nowadays my dog cannot seem to stop playing, has been able to shed a couple of pounds and is now fit and healthy, as he is eating fewer processed fats. I have also noticed that he has decreased his stool volume, which is a sign of his overall good health.

What Do Ticks Look Like On Dogs?

Ticks are small external parasites that belong to the family of arachnids, along with mites. Much like fleas, they live by hematophagy, that is, they bite through the skin of mammals and birds, and feed on the blood of their hosts. These blood-sucking parasites are normally found in grass and shrubs, as they wait to find a passing suitable host to attach themselves onto. Because of this, places where woods, grass, or bushes abound are more prone to tick presence. A common treatment and preventative measure is Frontline Plus. frontline comes in 3 colours, frontline plus orange is for small dogs, frontline plus blue is for medium dogs, and frontline plus purple for large dogs.

Unlike fleas, ticks do not have the ability to jump or fly; thus, when they find a suitable prey, they can only climb their newly found host. They then attach themselves onto the host by inserting their chelicerae and hypostome into the skin. This will be their tool in sucking the blood of their host. In addition, ticks tend to be more prominent during warm months, but this may vary by region and climate, and increase in number in places where there are bodies of water.
As in any other parasites, ticks can transmit several diseases, such as Lyme disease, relapsing fever, tularemia, and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. Victims of nasty ticks may also suffer from tick fever, hemorrhagic fever, and even tick paralysis, and usually show symptoms of fever, fatigue, rashes, joint pain, and body aches.
Because ticks can be carriers of very serious disease and prove to be a huge problem, it is important that you know what ticks look like, especially on your pet dogs. Here are photos of an adult American tick and an engorged tick (one that has already sucked blood).

Be wary that ticks do not infest your dogs, because once they attach themselves to your dogs, they continuously suck the blood and do not detach from your dogs until they are done feeding. The blood sucking may last for several hours, or even days, depending on the type of tick.
To check if your dogs are infested with ticks, run your hands through your dogs' bodies, concentrating on the most usual places that ticks attach themselves into. In dogs, these problematic areas are around the ears, between the toes, skin folds, the inner parts of the legs, and any other area that has crevices, or with little or no hair. Look out for raised or swelling areas, and check if there are embedded ticks. (For protection, you may want to wear latex gloves while doing this.) When you find such parasites, remove them immediately by pulling the ticks straight out from the skin. Once done, properly dispose of the ticks. Wash your dogs after the removal to prevent any more infestation. In case of any untoward incident while removing the ticks, consult a veterinarian for other treatment methods.
However, it is difficult to see adult ticks, and infestation may only be known when thousands of the parasites have already attached themselves to your dogs. With such number, treating ticks may pose a huge trouble.
As the saying goes, prevention is always better than cure. Knowledge of what ticks look like on dogs and what to do in case of suspected tick infestation is key to preventing any serious disease that these ticks may bring from victimizing your dogs.

Dog Food Recalls

Dogs are known to be man's best friend and most people consider them a member of their family. They are loved deeply and it is a sad occurrence when something happens to them, especially something that could have been prevented. One worst fear a pet owner has is that they might be feeding their dog something that could make them sick or even kill them. Recalls of dog food happen too frequently.

One of the most recent recalls on dog food is Merrick Beef Filet Squares that show an expiration date of November 19, 2011 on its package. These are doggy treats that were sold in several different markets. Merrick dog treats are believed to contain Salmonella which can make a dog very sick. Even owners should not come in contact with these treats because of the chance of them becoming ill themselves.

The brand Grreat Choice Dog Biscuits was recalled because their dog biscuits contained contaminated peanut paste that was found to contain Salmonella. These dog biscuits were recalled in January of 2009. Grreat Choice Dog Biscuits were sold at PetSmart stores. The company placed a voluntary recall on this product.
Hartz recalled certain bags of its chicken basted chews in October of 2008 due to the fact that the chews may contain Salmonella. Although, it was believed to be contained in only one bag of chews, the Hartz Corporation volunteered to recall any and all product that might be affected.

Mars Petcare US is another company that has had its share of recalls. Their recall took place in September of 2009. One dog food brand that you might recognize that they recalled was the "Old Roy" brand. It was believed that Salmonella, once again, was the reason for the recall.

Dog owners should keep track of all dog food recalls that are being done to ensure the safety of their pet.

Natural Balance Dog Food Review

I started my dog on Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Fish Salmon formula a few months ago on recommendation from a local dog breeder. This was because I had had enough of seeing her suffer for months with pain in her nails which would split deformedly and then immediately break off. After a short while, my Greyhound stopped having this autoimmune problem with her claws and is now healthy and full of life and energy. I welcomed the prices of Natural Balance dog food products because it is nothing compared to what I had to pay in vet bills each time her broken claws resulted in bleeding.

Another great thing about introducing my dog to Natural Balance is that I have noticed that his stool is no longer runny, but is instead firm and normal looking. He is now not as restless and uncomfortable as before and also seems to sleep better at night.

Natural Balance Dog Food and Allergies
Our Doberman seems to also have taken well to Natural Balance as he doesn't suffer the allergic reactions he used to. He is less food sensitive and is showing signs of increased appetite. His coat is less dry than before and much shinier. In fact, we have been stopped several times in the park by other dog owners who want to know what I feed him. I'm even thinking of demanding a commission from Natural Balance for all the free marketing I've been doing on their behalf!

I guess the secret to Natural Balance's amazing dog food products is the fact that they use high quality ingredients which work well in combating common ailments such as allergies, skin problems and even chronic diarrhea. Moreover, my dogs can't seem to get enough of Natural Balance dog food and always lick their bowls clean when they are done.

Natural Flea Control - Organic Flea Collar

There are many ways in which you can show your care for your pet dog! Buying a ‘flea and tick control collar’ for the dog is one among them. Fleas and ticks are insects which are fond of sucking blood by piercing the skin. So you need to take steps for flea and tick control and safeguard your pet.

Many hate the idea of tying a collar around their pets that is made of chemicals. You certainly need not worry about such things as long as you have natural products. Yes. Flea and tick control collars for dogs are now being made from natural products such as cotton, organic flowers, etc. In this article, I will discuss some of the non-toxic and harmless dog collars.

Natural Organic Flea Collars

Herbal flea collar for dogs is now available from the ‘Natural Animal’. This is made of cotton. Collars lose strength with time. They need to be recharged once in three months generally. This collar can be recharged very easily. The product comes with a bottle of essential oils applying which will recharge the collar for effective action against fleas and ticks.

If you are rearing up both your dog and its puppies, you can buy the Good Riddance Organic Flea Collar. These collars are available in many sizes and you can find one for both the dog and the puppy. With the smell of lavender filling the air and the collar made of cotton and flower buds being harmless to wear, this collar is one way to protect your dog from insects without burdening it.

What Flea Bites look like on Dogs

Fleas are wingless insects that are equipped with tube-like mouths to enable them to pierce through skin and feed on blood. They feed on warm-blooded mammals, most common of which are domestic animals, such as dogs and cats. However, they may also infect humans, especially those who have dogs and cats as pets. If your dog has fleas you will want to treat them with frontline plus. For small dogs use frontline plus orange, for larger dogs use frontline plus purple

How Fleas Work
To be able to feed on their hosts, fleas use their mouth parts to bite through their hosts' skin. In humans, flea bites appear as raised reddish welts on the surface of the skin; however, when pressed, they become white in color. These welts have clearly defined edges and may get spread and get bigger, forming more prominent areas of swelling skin. Flea bites may also appear like rashes, accompanied by small reddish or pinkish bumps. They cause tremendous itch and may eventually lead to bleeding due to scratching. Flea bites can easily be located in humans as they are usually located on the underarms, under the breasts, knees, elbows, and ankles.

As one can see, diagnosis of flea bites on humans is much easier as the piercing bites are more visible to the human eye. However, determining what flea bites look like on dogs and any other hairy and furry pet can prove to be quite a challenge.

Flea bites themselves may be difficult to notice on dogs. However, one indication that flea bites may be present is if your dogs suffer from continuous and intensive scratching. Dogs infested with flea bites may bite themselves constantly.

How to check for fleas on a dog
If you suspect that your dog have become victims to flea bites, you may then check to see if rashes with small red spots are present under their coat. This is what flea bites look on dogs. The most common areas of flea bites are the head, neck, and around the tail. Flea bites usually appear in lines of two bites or in clusters. Within minutes of contact with fleas, your dog’s skin will be irritated, with irritation varying from mild to severe. In very mild situations, your dog’s coat may just appear to be rough, with slight rashes. If the condition has not been diagnosed immediately and has gone more severely, your dog’s skin may remain itchy and swell up to several days after. This will cause even more frequent and compulsive scratching, eventually leading to hair loss, red lesions, and, in other cases, even ulcers.

In most cases, dogs that had become victims to flea bites are often mistaken to be infected with mange instead. Mange is a contagious skin disease that is prevalent in domestic animals, such as dogs and other canines, and is caused by parasitic mites, rather than fleas. Such parasites burrow into the skin of dogs, much like fleas, and cause inflammation of the skin, severe bouts of itching, and hair loss.

mange vs flea bites

Flea bite vs. Mange

Knowledge of what flea bites look like on dogs is a great help in treating the
problem and preventing even more diseases from infecting your dogs. However, as a safety precaution, it is always best to consult your veterinarian to confirm whether your dogs are having trouble with flea bites, mange, or any other kind of skin disease.

GPS Dog Collar for Hunting

Dogs Benefits When a Hunter Uses A GPS Dog Tracking Collar

Using a GPS dog tracking collar when you are hunting will change your whole hunting experience. Modern technology has provided you with this great way to keep track of your dog. Just imagine the freedom it will give you and your dog when you are out in the field hunting. You will not have to worry about your hunting dog getting lost anymore and the hours it takes to find them.

A hunter usually runs his dogs over several acres of land in search of rabbit, deer, or other animals. Sometimes this acreage is full of high grass and timber making it hard to see where your dog is going. When a hunting dog gets on the scent it is hard to control them. They are ready to run and find their prey. It is sometimes hard for a hunter to keep up with their dog when they are moving so fast. Dog owners worry about a larger animal such as a bear harming their dogs while they are lost. They also worry about them being exposed too long to very cold temperatures because they could become ill with frostbite or hypothermia.

Satellite is the key to your dog not becoming lost. When you purchase a GPS dog tracking system you will receive a GPS dog tracking collar and a handheld unit that receives satellite signals. This handheld unit includes a Map Screen and also a Compass Screen that will show you what direction your dog is traveling and how far your dog has traveled. It will also show if your dog is on point or not.
Hunting dogs and their owners will be greatly benefited by using a GPS dog
tracking system when they are hunting for game.

Flea And Tick Treatment

Our beloved pets have to be efficiently taken care of, if we need to help them stay healthy and safe. By understanding and monitoring them, we can help ourselves better in taking care of them. There are many forms of diseases and incurable symptoms in pets, especially dogs, which have the power to ruin their health.
Such diseases will need to be cured before they spread and become more powerful in their attacks. Most veterinarians will recommend frontline plus for tick and flea treatment. If you have a small dog, the best treatment is frontline plus orange This product is made specifically for small dogs

What Diseases do Fleas and Ticks Carry?
The primary things which we will need to worry about will be the skin disorders. The skin of animals will sometimes not be able to cooperate with the living atmospheres of human beings. This will be the source for skin diseases and hence, the life style we lead will need to be refined in support of the conditions required by our pets. Else, we are not only risking the health conditions of our beloved pets, but also their life if it gets serious enough.

Out of the Pandora’s Box (with regard to the life style of pets) the most common and irritating skin disorders will be the attacks of ticks and fleas. Frontline Plus is the perfect medicine to drive both away. Both these little pests survive by sucking out the cells off the layers of the skin during the initial stages of the attack. The same will progress rapidly, if proper care and help is not given to the pets after the first sign of them scratching their heads, on how best to scratch their backs ferociously. The problems can however be solved easily by using the proper dosages of medicated oils, powder and other medicines, after prior consultation with a certified vet.

How Frontline Plus Works
The flea and tick treatment requires the use of such advanced medicated powder or oil to free the skin of pets from attacks. The common and most sought for medicated products for the flea and tick treatment procedures will be from the Frontline Plus manufacturers. Their international certification in manufacturing procedures for the calculated dosages of anti flea and anti tick medicines has attracted the support of people from all around the world. Particularly, the common purchase of their products comes directly from those who own dogs, as they are most vulnerable to these skin problems, followed by sheep. Since they all have furs of good thickness, they are the primary targets for these disorders. The proper care of animals will be to use these powders or medicated oil from such well known manufacturers and apply the same over them as frequently as possible. Giving our pets a good bath at least, once in every five days will benefit both them and us. The benefits we get will be the amount of money we will be saving along with the fact that our happiness is tied with our pets’ fate.

What is the best flea and tick treatment?
Though there are many products available in this regard, the well known and effective versions of pet care medicines are provided by Frontline Plus alone. The flea and tick treatment medicines given by frontline plus have proved themselves worthy of purchasing and using them for our pets. A popular brand of frontline plus is the frontline plus orange 12 months This gives 12, one month doses of frontline plus orange, which means your dog can be protected from fleas and ticks for an entire year.

The Best Organic Dog Foods

There are many dog food choices on the market today. They range in price and variety. Each dog food manufacturer makes the claim that their dog food is the very best. But it is hard to tell what is the best organic dog food. Every variety is different and contains different ingredients. No two varieties are the same. The ingredients of non-organic dog food that manufacturers put in their dog food are sometimes not very healthy for your dog. They use a lot of animal by-products that could make your dog really sick. This is not the case with manufacturers of organic dog food. Organic dog food manufacturers strive to only put the best ingredients in their food. We will show you what is classified as organic dog food, and what you should look for. This article will also help you find the best organic dog food for your dog

Organic Dog Food; the Healthier Choice

Organic dog food will contain ingredients that offer a balanced nutritional diet for your dog. Ingredients include whole grains that have been ground for better ingesting. They include only the finest sources of protein from organic chickens and other organic animals. Some organic dog food manufacturers only include ingredients in their dog food that are United State Department of Agriculture certified. Manufactures also make sure that they include ingredients that are rich in minerals for your dog’s health. Organic dog foods must contain at least ninety five percent of ingredients that are organic to be considered organic dog food.

If your dog is very sensitive to what they eat you may want to choose an organic dog food that is hypoallergenic. One such dog food is California Natural. This dog food manufacture includes only ingredients that your dog will not be sensitive to. Other dog food companies use unhealthy fillers in their dog food and California Natural leaves these ingredients out of their dog food processing. Some ingredients in their dog food include brown rice, lamb meal, and sunflower oil.

Feeding your dog organic dog food will make your dog a very healthy and happy dog
