Flint River Ranch Dog Food

Flint River Ranch Dog Food Review and Information

Natural, easily digested dog food

Flint River Ranch dog food prides itself in manufacturing a food that is all natural and slowly oven baked under tightly supervised conditions. The end result is a natural dog food that is easily digested by your dog and/or puppy and has a high level of key vitamins and minerals. Per their website, Flint River dog food is “dedicated to the holistic well-being of your beloved family companions.” In addition, Flint River both guarantees their product and its all natural ingredients. They are quick to point out what their dog foods don't have: by-products, chemical preservatives, and artificial flavoring and coloring.

Flint River Ranch dog food varieties

Like with all dog foods, Flint River Ranch gives consumers a wide variety to choose from; for both puppies and adult dogs they offer the Original Flint River Ranch Oven-Baked Kibble or Nugget Canine Formula, Dry Water “Ultra Fresh Innovations,” Flint River Ranch Lamb Meal, Flint River Ranch Millet & Rice Ultra Premium Canine Formula, Flint River Ranch Fish & Chips Trout and Potato Formula, and Flint River Ranch Senior LITE and Senior Plus Adult Canine Formula. Each of these premium foods is made with blends of meat proteins, fruits, herbs, grains, and vitamins and minerals.

Choosing the right dry dog food

With the abundance of dog foods on the market, it can be difficult to make an informed decision about what you think your dog and/or puppy should be eating. I am sure you will find as many opinions, as there are dog foods in trying to determine what to buy. Despite all the 'confusion' and choice, dog food manufacturers have made feeding your dog a relatively simple task. You only need to decide which brand to buy, how much to feed your dog and whether the dog likes the food. The cost is often the final consideration, but don't let that compromise the nutritional quality of your dog food.

While federal law requires that all pet food manufacturers provide a list of ingredients on the package, those lists will only give you a rough idea of the quality of the food. For example, protein in dog food is derived from both meat and poultry but they are not all the same quality and digestibility. Just because beef or some other protein is mentioned on the package, doesn't mean it guarantees the quality.

In general, most dog food manufacturers will label their dog food with something like “beefy chunks” which means that the actual amount of protein your dog will derive from that food is far less than the required 95%. It is for precisely this reason, one can rely on Flint River Ranch.

Flint River Ranch foods give dogs and puppies a high-quality diet and they are using ingredients that are highly digestible and have good to excellent nutrient availability. In Flint River Ranch Fish and Chips, Trout and Potato formula you will not find the four most common allergens for dogs(corn, wheat, chicken and soy) which is found in most commercial dog food. These have been left out of the ingredients which results in a meal that is ideal for dogs with skin or food-related allergies.

If you are one to insist on feeding your dog or puppy a homemade diet, then giving them Flint River Ranch Dog Food is the closest you will come to that homemade quality. Getting a correct nutritional balance in dog food can be rather tricky. In the handling of raw meats, it must be done carefully in order to prevent bacterial disease such as salmonella – which can affect dogs. As well, the careful storage, thawing and hygiene in handling all the right ingredients are really essential in preventing potential health problems. Since the average dog owner doesn't have the time or nutritional background to prepare their own dog food, why not rely on the professionals at Flint River Ranch?

What foods are bad for dogs

Harmful foods for Dogs

Below is a list of harmful foods for dogs. When you are considering a raw feed diet, or preparing your own meals for a dog it is important to know what foods are bad for a dog. We have included 10 foods a dog should not eat to help you choose the proper diet for your dog.

  1. Onions: Onions are bad for dogs because onions can break down your dog's red blood cells and severely decrease the oxygen that gets to your dogs blood. This problem may not show up immediately, but will build up over time. You should look for the following symptoms, loss of appetite, diarrhea, vomiting and malaise.

  2. Chocolate: Chocolate is bar for dogs because it can actually speed up your dog's heart rate which can lead to seizures and even heart attacks. In addition to that they can vomit, get diarrhea and have frequent urination. If you realize your dog has eaten some chocolate, it's best to get them to the animal emergency hospital right away.

  3. Alcohol: You should not give your dog alcohol because your dog's body just can't handle it. Alcohol could very easily give them alcohol poisoning and end up leading to death.

  4. Caffeine: Caffeine is a bad food for a dog because caffeinated products can cause your dogs heart to race rapidly which could cause a seizure or heart attack.

  5. Raisins and Grapes: Grapes are a bad food for dogs because they contain an unknown toxin, which can damage the kidneys. It's best to keep your dog clear from both of these due to the fact that there still isn't a specific measurement of how much they can actually handle, plus they just doesn't agree with your dog's digestive system. It can cause vomiting, diarrhea and frequent urination.

  6. Avocados: These are very toxic for your dog. They have a chemical that can damage their body tissues. The ASPCA maintains that avocados are a bad for dogs to eat. "Avocado leaves, fruit, seeds and bark contain a toxic principle known as persin,” according to Dana Farbman, CVT, of the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center. “The Guatemalan variety, which is the most common variety found in stores, appears to be the most problematic.”

  7. Raw Fish: Raw fish is another food that dogs should not eat. Raw fish contains parasites, so if your dog swallows these parasites, they will cling to the wall of their intestines. It takes a while to notice something is wrong with your dog so you need to have regular checkups with your vet. Make sure you thoroughly cook your fish before feeding it to your dog.

  8. Macadamia Nuts: These nuts can cause heart problems, seizures, high fever and even paralysis. In 94% of cases from 1998 to 2001, dogs that had consumed macadamia nuts were reported to be showing at least one of these clinical signs (ASPCA APCC AnTox Medical Record Database: Unpublished data, 1987-2001)

  9. Foods with Pits: Pits have cyanide in them and are extremely dangerous to your dog. It's possible for a pit to overtake the body of a small dog and they could die from it. Foods with pits are also bad for dogs as they may choke on them.

  10. Bread Dough:We all know how most dogs eat (without even chewing!) Since bread dough is soft, your dog could end up swallowing this whole. The dough can actually rise in the dog's stomach and cause terrible bloating and nausea. (very uncomfortable for them)

Pick The Best Dog Training Collar

Good Dog Training Collars

Good dog training collars are important when it comes to training your dog. This article will help you pick the best dog training collar for your dog.

When you are training dogs, the most important tool you have is the dog training collar. This type of collar is the very fundamental tool used to train your dog some basic tricks as well as sport dog training, obedience dog training, and even expanded training without having to hire the services of a professional dog trainer.

Services like these can be quite expensive. Hence, trying to train your dogs using dog training collars can save you lots of money.

What are Dog Training Collars?

Dog training collars are specially designed collars to put your dog under proper control. It guides them on what to do, such as the proper way to behave in public places when instructed to.

Dog training collars facilitate obedience training and enable the dogs to learn the necessary “obedience commands” such as heel, stay, and sit.

In the past there were only a few options in choosing a dog training collar. Now, thanks to the revolutionary dog training collar enhancements, dog owners can choose from a wider array of dog training collars.

How to Pick the Best Dog Training Collar
Below are some factors to consider when picking a dog training collar

1. Size

Of course, this aspect matters most. It is important that the dog training collar will fit comfortably on your dog's neck. Do not make random guesses as to how long the collar should be.

Before going to the pet shop, try to measure your dog's neck by using tape measure or any string or tape that can be used as a guide. Then, try to make some allowances, say, 2 to 3 inches more. You can never be too sure about the actual length of the item; hence, it is best to make room for extras.

2. Budget

Each type of dog training collar may vary from the most affordable to the most expensive. Among the different types of dog training collars, the electronic dog training collar is the most expensive. Since it runs electric current throughout its mechanism, the actual value for this collar is quite expensive.

If you cannot afford to buy expensive ones, you can always resort to cheap dog training collars. However, the efficiency of developing positive results is lower than the best dog training collars available in the market today.

Keep in mind that quality is always partnered with value. Hence, the better the quality, the higher the value.

3. Function

Some experts do not approve using dog electronic dog training collars. The infliction of pain tends to create inhumane act towards dogs. Hence, if you think you can still train your dog without having to hurt them, you can try the other types of dog training collars.

Just keep in mind to choose dog training collars according to the function that you need. For instance, if you do not want to use inhumane devices such as shock collar but would still want to tame down a wild dog, you can use the pronged collar instead. It is ideal for dogs that are hard to control.

Indeed, buying dog training collars can be quite tedious. However, once you have considered these factors, buying the best dog training collar is possible.

1/2 cup flax seeds ground up in coffee grinder
2-3 cups potato flour

Dog Food Recipe Directions:
Put these ingredients into a food processor, mix VERY WELL. Pour potato flour through the opening while the motor is running. I can't tell you exactly how much, but I would guess about 2-3 cups. When the dough forms, like a pie curst, and rolls into a ball it is ready to take out.
Dump this mess onto potato floured counter or board. Knead more flour into this and when it is a rolled out cookie consistency, it is ready to roll out into about 14 inch thick. I use a pizza cutter to roll our long strips and then cut crosswise to make small squares . If you want fancy you may use a cookie cutter. Bake on cookie sheets, sprayed Pam or line the sheet with parchment paper. I put in as many as will fit. Usually two whole cookie sheets suffices. I bake this in a 375ยบ oven for 20 min. Turn and rotate the cookie sheets and bake about 10 more minutes. You can make them as soft or as hard as you want.

Nuvet has been selling Dog Vitamins for over 12 years, making them one of the oldest U.S pet supplement companies, ensuring your dog gets the best Dog Vitamins there are.

The second product is EZ Treats Puppy Vitamins

Ez treat was chosen because it is a cheap alternative to the more expensive (although superior) Nuvet dog vitamins. These dog vitamins are fairly simple and give your dog an extra boost of nutrients.

The difference between the two is that Nuvet is specifically formulated and took years to perfect. NuVet also uses human grade, all natural ingredients. (just look at the nuvet plus ingredients )

How to Clean Dog Pee From Carpet

clean dog pee from carpet

How to Clean Dog Urine From Carpet

If your dog went pee on your carpet it can be very frustrating and hard to clean up. The worst is when a puppy pees on the same spot again! This article will show you how to clean puppy pee from a carpet, and also it will help stop the puppy from peeing in the same spot.

  1. The first step is to soak up as much of the puppy pee as possible

    1. A cloth is recommended (re-usable) and judging by the commercials on t.v I think the Sham Wow would work well at absorbing most of the puppy pee

    2. At first just apply a light amount of pressure to the area where the puppy has peed on the carpet. Rinse the cloth and continue to soak up more and more, using more pressure each time

  2. Dilute the area where the dog has peed

    1. You have abosrbed most of the puppy pee by this point, but some remains in the carpet, dump out a glass of water and then soak that up, the same way you did in step 1.

  3. Now is a good time to scrub the carpet using a carpet cleaner. Give it a good scrub and maybe rinse it one more time with water to soak up and residue

  4. After you are all done you should use a pet odor eliminator or pet odor remover. This is very important
    1. Puppies like to pee in the same spot, if your puppy has gone pee on the carpet it will likely be more prone to pee on the same spot again, this is because they can smell where they have gone pee. Using a pet odor remover helps get rid of this smell making it impossible for the dog to smell, and less likely to go pee on your carpet again!

That is all for now this should help you know how to clean dog urine from a carpet

Health Benefits of Prebiotics and Probiotics for Our Pets

I found this great, detailed, thorough article outlining the benefits of Prebiotic and Probiotic dog food. I thought this was great, although a bit wordy so I have summed it up and changed some wording. This was written by Randy Kidd who has a PHD (knows what he's talking about)

Article Source: Randy Kidd, DVM, PhD

Lately people have become more aware of how important their dogs health really is. Recent dog food scares have made this even more evident for pet owners. As a result, dog owners are now looking for dog food for their dogs that support health and nutrition (not just keep them full). In this article, we will take a look past basic nutrition, at beneficial food ingredients called prebiotics and probiotics that are present in natural dog foods or can be added to prepared dog food.

In both natural dog food and prepared dog food, prebiotics and probiotics create health benefits related to their interactions with the microflora (tiny organisms) in the dogs digestive tract. In addition, both prebiotics and probiotics have health-providing activities of their own, independent of interaction with the dogs digestive tract.

The health benefit of prebiotics, in dogs and people have only come to light in recent years, but recognition of the beneficial effects of probiotics actually dates back to the 19th century when the French scientist, Louis Pasteur, postulated the importance of micro organisms to human life. So, what exactly are prebiotics? They are, by definition, non-digestible food ingredients that beneficially affect the host by selectively stimulating the growth of one of a limited number of beneficial bacterial species in the colon. Beneficial bacteria include Bifidobacteria and Lactobacilli, which have the potential to improve host (you or your dog) health, while at the same time working to inhibit the growth of pathogenic, "bad-guy" microorganisms. In other words, prebiotics are "health food" for beneficial bacteria.

For a food ingredient to be classified as a prebiotic, it has to be demonstrated that it is:

  • Not broken down in the stomach or absorbed in the GI tract.
  • Fermented by the gastrointestinal microflora.
  • Selectively stimulates the growth and/or activity of intestinal bacteria associated with health and well-being.

Probiotic bacteria, when taken together with prebiotics that support their growth, are called "synbiotics" that promote the probiotics' benefits. Several commercial products available for both humans and dogs now contain prebiotics, and other products contain both prebiotics and probiotics.

So I know what you are thinking, blah blah blah, enough with the nerd talk. Well the article goes into GREAT detail so I will skip to the good part

Benefits of Prebiotic Dog food (and Probiotic)

Prebiotics may have a number of beneficial actions for your dog, including:

  • anticarcinogenic (anti-tumor)
  • antimicrobial, hypolipidemic (decreasing circulating fats in the bloodstream)
  • glucose-modulatory (the ability to help maintain normal blood glucose levels) activities

In addition to providing intestinal and general, overall health, some prebiotics have been used pharmaceutically for the treatment of a variety of diseases, including the following:

  • Intestinal infections
  • Constipation
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Diabetes mellitus
  • Hepatic encephalopathy
  • A variety of tumors
  • Protect against osteoporosis
  • Help correct problems of fat or glucose metabolism

Pretty awesome eh?

Well dont just go and load your dog full of prebiotics! To much of a good thing might not be so good. Prebiotics should be given in low dosages. To stay safe it would not hurt to buy the dog food with prebiotics already in it ;)

If you would like to learn more about Prebiotic dog food and there advantages you could always visit the Iams or Eukanuba website. Also check out our Iams ProActive Health food review and Eukanuba Prebiotic dog food review
